The Fifth Plenary Session of the Nineteenth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China put forward the "implementation of urban renewal action", which has become a hot spot in academic research and practical exploration. On August 29, the "2022 Urban Renewal Governance Workshop" co-hosted by the School of Government and Management of the Central University of Finance and Economics, the Urban Renewal Committee of the Chinese Society for Urban Sciences, and the editorial department of the "Urban Development Research" magazine came to a successful conclusion.
Relying on the "Double First-Class" discipline construction project of the Central University of Finance and Economics, the workshop taking "Urban Renewal Governance: Value Enhancement and Co-creation" as the theme, aims to organize research forces in public management and related disciplines, systematically sort out urban renewal actions from the perspective of governance and summarize the experience in the process of urban renewal actions to explore the innovative path of multi-interest coordination and value co-creation in urban renewal for promoting interdisciplinary research in the field of urban renewal and providing decision-making reference for urban renewal actions in various regions.
There were more than 10,000 people attending the workshop through Tencent Meeting. It began on July 4th and lasted nearly two months, during which there were three stages of activities successfully organized, including lectures, paper collection and selection, and paper report and review.
During the lecture stage, the School of Government and Management invited 8 well-known domestic scholars from Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, Land and Space Planning Research Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, etc., as well asexperts in the urban renewal business circles and leaders of social organizations from Hong Kong Blackstone Fund, China Foreign Economic and Trade Trust Co., Ltd., Beijing Vision Mingde Management Consulting Co., Ltd., Beijing Xuanfang Dade Real Estate Investment Co., Ltd., Beijing Hehe Social Organization and other units brought theoretical insights to the teachers and students of the school and other people. There are some topics in this feast of knowledge from research to market practice, covering the theoretical development of urban renewal, financing models, land policy support, renovation and operation models, social governance of renewal projects, etc., fully responding to the key points, difficulties and urgency of urban renewal work in China, and social impact widely.
Expert lectures held in this workshop
The workshop received applications from more than 100 scholars from more than 90 institutions at home and abroad. Selected by the expert group, 53 papers submitted by researchers from domestic and foreign universities, such as Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang University, South China University of Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, Central University of Finance and Economics, University College London, Warwick University, Macau City University, as well as many national universities provincial and municipal scientific research institutes, enterprises and institutions entered the final report stage.
From August 25th to August 29th, the participants of the workshop reported accordingly following the principles of "Urban Village and Community Micro-Renewal", "Urban Renewal Investment and Financing Innovation", "Urban Governance and Urban Renewal", "New Paradigm of Urban Renewal in the New Era" and "Spatial Reproduction of Urban Renewal" topics. Five authoritative experts were invited to give keynote reports to the participants, and a total of 20 experts participated in the on-site paper review and excellent paper review. In the end, 11 excellent papers were selected.

Professor LI Xun, editor-in-chief of "Urban Development Research" magazine and former vice president of China Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, and Professor JIANG Ling, dean of the School of Government and Management of Central University of Finance and Economics, made a summary and prospect on behalf of the organizers. The organizing committee of the workshop will continue to promote the recommended publication of excellent papers and the collection and publication of submitted papers on the basis of selecting excellent papers.
